If you love beef jerky, you’ll love these air fryer beef chips! These beef chips are similar to beef jerky but crispy and much quicker to make. They’re perfect to take along for a quick protein snack and keep well at room temp.
My family loves beef jerky! We love it so much that we bought a dehydrator and started making large batches at home because we were going through them so fast.
The only downside is that it takes a long time marinating overnight and then a whole day in the dehydrator.
Not to forget, the shuffling of trays and flipping the beef jerky. I often thought, there had to be an easier way!
When I finally purchased an air fryer after recommendations from many friends, I knew one of the first things I wanted to try was to make beef jerky!
But more importantly, I wanted to make a quick and easy version of beef jerky that didn’t require overnight marinating and a whole day dehydrating.
So after a lot of experimentation, I finally came up with an easy recipe that is similar to beef jerky but crispier so we are calling it air fryer beef chips!
What kind of beef cut are best to make air fryer beef chips?
We recommend thinly sliced beef about 1/8 of an inch thick. The thinner it is, the crispier it will get. Also, we recommend sticking with lean cuts like sirloin or round to get it crispy.
Why air fry to make beef chips?
Air frying is much easier and quicker than using a dehydrator. Typically, beef jerky or beef chips take a whole day to extract all the liquid from the beef. But with an air fryer, it only takes about an hour. You also don’t have to rotate trays or do any kind of flipping, so it’s set and forget!
What is the difference between beef jerky and air fried beef chips?
Beef jerky is made from thick sliced beef typically marinated for at least 12 hours, then placed in a dehydrator for another 8-12 hours. The texture ranges from soft and chewy to hard and dry. On the other hand, beef chips are made from thinly sliced beef, sprinkled with seasoning, then air fried until crispy like a chip!
How to place beef slices into the air fryer to make beef chips?
It’s important to lay slices of beef single-layered onto the air fryer tray. They will shrink so, you can pack them tightly together but just make sure it’s not overlapping.
Best of all, these beef chips are low carb keto and packed with protein! Makes for a perfect meal planning snack that you can enjoy the next time you go hiking, go on a road trip, or during a TV show!
For this one, all the ingredients should be available at a local supermarket.
You’ll also need an air fryer, which if you’re on the fence about, we couldn’t recommend them more! It’s a deep frying, recipe creating game changer!
Note – You can usually get thinly sliced beef at your local Asian supermarket under packages labeled shabu-shabu (thin) or sukiyaki (slightly thicker). Either of these would work for this recipe. Also, you can slice your own meat from a roast.
Now, let’s get air frying some

How do you store these, and how long do they last while stored? Thank you. I used to make beef jerky and you’re right, it takes forever. I am totally psyched about this quick and easy method!
(I am already on your mailing list 🙂 ).
Thanks for already joining the mailing list Magaret! We actually store these in a ziplock in the freezer because we like our beef chips very crispy, so they last a very long time in there. But at room temp, I would guess at least a week.
