  • NY Steak or Top Sirloin – any type of steak will work for this recipe. We recommend leaner cuts of meat such as New York strip steak or sirloin.
  • Neutral Oil no taste or flavor with high cooking temperature. Some choices are sunflower oil, peanut oil, sallower oil, vegetable oil, and canola oil. 
  • Salt – sea salt preferred.
  • Black Pepper – ground.
  • Garlic– freshly grated garlic.
  • Green Onion – finely chopped green onion scallions.
  • Japanese Sake – typically will come in a large bottle labeled junmai sake. Can also substitute with dry sherry wine or Chinese cooking wine, found at local grocery stores or Asian markets. 
  • Soy Sauce – low-sodium Soy Sauce preferred. Can also use tamari for gluten-free and coconut aminos for keto.  
  • Butter – unsalted or salted.
  • Rice – rice of choice, use cauliflower rice for a low carb recipe.

☑ Before Getting Started

For best results, use a Large Frying Pan that provides ample space for cooking the steaks.

Step 1 Combine soy sauce, Japanese sake, green onions, grated garlic, and melted butter in a mixing bowl.

Step 2 Pat dry the steak and sprinkle it with salt and pepper, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.

Step 3 In a large pan or cast iron skillet, heat neutral cooking oil over high heat. Add the steak cubes and sear them for about 1-2 minutes until the outside is seared. Then, add the prepared garlic butter sauce to the pan and cook for an additional 15-30 seconds.

🍳 Cooking Pro Tip

If your preference leans towards medium to Well-Done Steaks, aim for a cooking time of approximately 3-4 Minutes. If using leftover steaks, reduce the cooking time accordingly.

Step 4 Serve the garlic butter steak cubes on top of rice of choice and garnish with chopped green onions.

  • Gather all the ingredients.

  • Pat steak dry with paper towel and moderately sprinkle salt and pepper. Cut steak into cubes about 1/2 x 1/2 inch and set aside.

  • Grind garlic with a grinder or garlic press.

  • Thinly cut green onions.

  • Combine Soy Sauce, Japanese sake, grated garlic, green onions and melted butter into mixing bowl and set aside.

  • In a fry pan, add neutral cooking oil on high heat. Once up to heat, add steaks and cook until outside is seared, about 1-1.5 minutes.

  • After steaks are seared, add sauce and cook for an additional 15-30 seconds or until butter is melted. Serve over rice and pour any excess sauce on top.
