Ham and Cheddar Bread Rolls

These low carb ham and cheese bread rolls are bursting with delicious flavors of sharp cheddar and smokey ham. You won’t believe these rolls are low carb!

Low carb rolls that satisfy bread cravings every time! Not only that, but since these ham and cheese rolls are made from almond flour and cheese, it’s much more filling and flavorful than ones made with wheat flour.

What is Ham and Cheddar Bread Rolls ?

Low carb and keto cheese bread are made from almond flour, cream cheese, and shredded cheese (aka fathead dough).

The cheese is melted and then mixed with almond flour to create a bread dough. Ham is rolled in the cheese bread and baked until fully cooked.

Since these rolls are made up of almond flour, which is gluten-free, they have a different texture than rolls made with wheat flour.

They’re denser and have much more flavor. Also because of its ingredients, you’ll find they’re more filling and keep you feeling full longer than traditional wheat breads.

What ingredients do I need and how do you make low carb ham and cheddar bread rolls?

  • Almond Flour – a low carb and keto friendly alternative to wheat flour. Almond flour can be found in most supermarkets.
  • Baking Powder – this helps the bread rise when baking.
  • Cheddar Cheese – you can use mild or sharp shredded cheese.
  • Cream Cheese – use block cream cheese.
  • Deli Ham – use your preferred type of ham (honey ham, smoked ham, black forest ham, homemade ham).
  • Egg – beaten and used for egg wash.

Combine Almond Flour, and Baking Powder in a bowl. Add sharp shredded cheddar and cream cheese in a separate bowl and microwave until melted mixing halfway. Add almond flour mixture to form dough and roll into balls.

Using the palm of your hand or a rolling pin, gently press to flatten the dough to roughly the size of the ham slice. Place ham on top of the flattened dough (fold in half if needed) and carefully roll the dough.

Place seam-side down on baking pan brush with egg wash and bake until golden brown. Enjoy warm! Optional, sprinkle a little parsley on top before baking.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Almond Flour
  • 1/2 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1 1/4 Cup Cheddar Cheese (sharpness is personal preference)
  • 2 oz Cream Cheese
  • 6 Slices Deli Ham
  • 1 Egg (Egg Wash)

Directions

1) Gather all ingredients.

2) Preheat oven to 350F and line baking sheet with silicone baking mat (parchment paper works as well).

3) Combine Almond Flour and Baking Powder in a bowl.  Mix well and set aside.

4) In a different large microwavable bowl, add sharp shredded cheddar and cream cheese.  Microwave for 30-45 seconds, take out and stir, then microwave for 30-45 more seconds and stir again.  Continue this process until the cheese is completely melted.

5) Add the Almond Flour mixture from step 4) into the cheese bowl while still warm, quickly knead with hands until dough-like consistency and everything is fully combined.  If dough cools too much just microwave for a few seconds, take out and knead again.

6) Once combined, separate into 6 equal parts.  Take 1 part, form a ball and place onto a silicone baking mat.  Using the palm of your hand, gently press to flatten the dough to roughly the size of the ham slice.  Place ham on top of the flattened dough (fold in half if needed) and carefully roll the dough as shown below.  Repeat until all the dough is used.  Note – if the dough breaks apart while rolling, re-warm in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.

7) Beat egg in a bowl and gently brush onto rolls (egg wash).

8) Bake for 18-20 minutes, until buns are firm and slightly golden brown.  Enjoy warm!
