Ham and Cheddar Bread Rolls

These keto ham and cheddar cheese bread rolls are the perfect low carb alternative to fill you up and leave you satisfied throughout the day!  Bursting with delicious flavors of sharp cheddar and smokey ham, you won’t believe these rolls are low carb!

Every now and then you just want some bread!  And when that happens, I usually make one of our keto bread rolls.

It satisfies the cravings every time!  Not only that, but since these ham and cheese rolls are made from almond flour and cheese, it’s much more filling and flavorful than ones made with wheat flour.

One of these really goes a long way to making you feel nice and full!

How do you make keto cheese bread?

Keto cheese bread is made from almond flour, cream cheese, and shredded cheese (aka fathead dough).  The cheese is melted and then mixed with almond flour to create a keto bread dough.

Tips for making keto cheese bread rolls?

The key to making these rolls is to work quickly and make sure the mixture is warm when rolling them.  If the mixture cools too much, it’ll break apart and crumble on you when forming the rolls.  If this happens, just put it in microwave for 10 seconds to soften it back up again.

What does keto cheese bread rolls taste like?

Since these rolls are made up of almond flour, which is gluten-free, they”ll have a different texture than rolls made with wheat flour.  They’re denser and have much more flavor.  Also because of it’s ingredients, you’ll find they’re more filling and keep you feeling full longer than traditional wheat breads.

Can I add different types of seasoning and mix-ins into the keto cheese bread dough?

For this recipe, the special ingredients you would need is Almond Flour, which can be purchased on Amazon or a local specialty supermarket.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Almond Flour
  • 1/2 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1 1/4 Cup Cheddar Cheese (sharpness is personal preference)
  • 2 oz Cream Cheese
  • 6 Slices Deli Ham
  • 1 Egg (Egg Wash)

Directions

1) Gather all ingredients.

2) Preheat oven to 350F and line baking sheet with silicone baking mat (parchment paper works as well).

3) Combine Almond Flour and Baking Powder in a bowl.  Mix well and set aside.

4) In a different large microwavable bowl, add sharp shredded cheddar and cream cheese.  Microwave for 30-45 seconds, take out and stir, then microwave for 30-45 more seconds and stir again.  Continue this process until the cheese is completely melted.

5) Add the Almond Flour mixture from step 4) into the cheese bowl while still warm, quickly knead with hands until dough-like consistency and everything is fully combined.  If dough cools too much just microwave for a few seconds, take out and knead again.

6) Once combined, separate into 6 equal parts.  Take 1 part, form a ball and place onto a silicone baking mat.  Using the palm of your hand, gently press to flatten the dough to roughly the size of the ham slice.  Place ham on top of the flattened dough (fold in half if needed) and carefully roll the dough as shown below.  Repeat until all the dough is used.  Note – if the dough breaks apart while rolling, re-warm in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.

7) Beat egg in a bowl and gently brush onto rolls (egg wash).

8) Bake for 18-20 minutes, until buns are firm and slightly golden brown.  Enjoy warm!
