What is an Iced Vanilla Chai Latte?

This iced vanilla chai latte is made with a chai tea bag, water, milk, vanilla, sweetener of choice and of course ice cubes.  Chai tea bags contain black tea and spices such a cardamon, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, peppercorns, cardamom, and star anise giving you wonderful exotic flavors.

If you prefer a non-vanilla iced chai tea latte, you can omit the vanilla.

What is an iced vanilla chai latte taste like?

Chai tea is native to India and If you’ve ever had an iced chai latte, this vanilla chai latte is very similar with the addition of vanilla to give it an extra element of flavor.

The tea base in chai is most commonly made from the Assam and Darjeeling black tea.

Chai tea has a very distinct and unique flavor that’s earthy, sweet and creamy.  Plus, you get the caffeine from the black tea which is a great pick-me-up.

What kind of chai tea should I use?

My favorite chai tea bags are from Tazo, but feel free to use any brand you prefer.

What ingredients do I need and how to make vanilla chai latte?

  • Chai Tea Bag – use your favorite chai tea bag.  For a stronger chai flavor, you can brew two bags.
  • Sweetener –  use your preferred sweetener.
  • Vanilla Extract – adds a very strong vanilla flavor.  You can use regular vanilla extract as well as Mexican vanilla or vanilla syrup.
  • Half and Half – half milk and half cream.  If you do have access to half and half you can make your own, use milk, heavy cream, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, or your preferred milk alternative.
  • Ice – if you feel the ice waters down your drink too much, use 2 bags of chai tea.
  • Whipped Cream – optional for extra creaminess.

The instructions are to steep tea for 3-6 minutes, add sweetener and vanilla extract and stir to dissolve.  Fill ice to the top of the glass and pour in half and half or preferred milk alternative.  Enjoy!

Another way to make this delicious drink is to use concentrated tea found in many supermarkets.

  1. This looks so good! Can I make a batch of it or is it better one at a time?

    • LowCarbingAsian

Hi Suzanne! You can make this as a batch, just multiple all the ingredients accordingly! Also, make sure not to add in the half/half until ready to drink!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I love how simple this is to make! Perfect for an afternoon pick me up!

  3. Hello. I have a quick question. What are some substitutes for the swerve/monkfruit???

    • LowCarbingAsian

Hi Michelle! Sugar if you don’t care about carbs. If you do care about carbs, Monkfruit is really the only one we can recommend.
