Japanese Style Pork Stir Fry

This easy Japanese pork stir fry recipe is packed full of delicious refined flavors while still having that home cooked feeling! It’s an easy dish that comes together quickly, perfect for a weeknight meal.

Not only is this pan fried pork recipe a quick and easy dish for any day of the week, but it’s also a healthy low carb, gluten-free and starch-free recipe that’s packed with classic Japanese flavors.

What is Japanese Style pork stir-fry? 

Thinly sliced pork is stir-fried along with sliced onions, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, sake, togarashi, and monkfruit.  The dish is finished with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds and green onions. Feel free to add other types of veggies such as mushrooms, asparagus, bell peppers and broccoli.

What ingredients are needed and what are the directions to make pork stir fry?

  • Thinly Sliced Pork Butt/Shoulder
  • Onions
  • Cooking Oil
  • Soy Sauce
  • Japanese Sake (can sub with dry sherry)
  • Monkfruit Erythritol Blend (or sweetener of choice)
  • Garlic
  • Togarashi (can replace with chili powder)
  • Sesame Oil
  • Green Onions
  • Toasted Sesame Seed

First combine the ingredients to make the stir fry sauce.  Next, stir fry onions and pork until tender and pork is browned.  Add the sauce into stir-fry, transfer to a serving plate and garnish with green onions and toasted sesame seeds! That’s all!

What’s monkfruit and can I swap it out with another sweetener?

We use lakanto monkfruit which is a blend of erythritol and monkfruit and has 0 carbs.  If you prefer, you can replace monkfruit with the sweetener of your choice or use regular cane sugar.

Use thinly sliced butt/shoulder pork cut for this recipe which can be purchased at many Asian supermarkets.

What’s neutral cooking oil?

Neutral cooking oil is oil with near neutral taste such as vegetable, canola, soybean, canola, safflower, sunflower and grapeseed.  Feel free to use your preferred oil of choice.

What is Japanese sake and where can I purchase it?

You can find Japanese cooking sake at most Asian or Japanese markets.  They come in large glass bottles and are usually under $10.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lbs Thinly Sliced Pork Butt/Shoulder (about 1/8 inch thickness)
  • 1/4 Cup Sliced Onions
  • 1 tbsp Neutral Cooking Oil (no taste)
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Japanese Sake
  • 1 tbsp Monkfruit Erythritol Blend (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1 Clove Garlic
  • 1/4 tsp Togarashi (can replace with chili powder)
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Stalk Green Onions
  • 1/2 tsp Toasted Sesame Seed (optional)

Directions

1) Gather all the ingredients.

2) Slice onions and chop green onions as shown below.

3) Grate garlic with a grater and place it into a small mixing bowl.  Add in Soy Sauce, Japanese Sake, Monkfruit Erythritol Blend, Togarashi, Sesame Oil and mix until well combined.

4) In a large Teflon frying pan, add neutral cooking oil and bring up to temp on medium heat.  Add in sliced onions and cook for 1-2 until slightly softened.

5) Next, bump heat up to medium-high, add in thinly sliced pork and cook for 2-3 minutes until meat is browned as shown below.

6) Add in the sauce from step 3), cook for 30-45 seconds and then transfer to a serving plate.  Top with green onions, optional Toasted Sesame Seed and enjoy hot!
