This pork stir-fry is a dish my mother-in-law would whip up when she was short on time or wanted a quick meal to serve the family.

My husband grew up eating this and to him, it brings back great memories from his childhood.

It’s a Japanese pork dish recipe that’s packed with flavors of semi-sweet soy sauce along with hints of umami and Japanese spices!

And since it’s such a special dish to our family, we wanted to share this recipe with you all and we hope you like it as much as we do!

What is Japanese Style pork stir-fry?

Thinly sliced pork is stir-fried along with sliced onions, garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, sake, togarashi, monkfruit.  The dish is finished with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds and green onions.

What’s monkfruit and can I swap it out with another sweetener?

We use lakanto monkfruit which is a blend of erythritol and monkfruit and has 0 carbs.  If you prefer, you can replace monkfruit with the sweetener of your choice that is 1:1 to sugar.

What kind of pork should I use for this recipe?

Thinly sliced butt/shoulder cut.  I usually purchase this from my local Asian supermarket or you can cut it yourself using a meat slicer.

What’s neutral cooking oil?

Neutral cooking oil is oil with near neutral taste such as vegetable, canola, soybean, canola, safflower, sunflower and grapeseed.  Feel free to use your preferred oil of choice.

Japanese sake used for Japanese recipes and cooking

What is Japanese sake and where can I purchase it?

We use Japanese cooking sake which actually is not very different than Japanese drinking sake however, the ones we use come in a large bottle and are usually less than $10.

The special ingredients needed for this recipe are Soy Sauce, Monkfruit, Togarashi, Sesame Oil, Japanese Sake and Toasted Sesame Seed.  All these can be picked up on Amazon (aside from Japanese sake) or a local Asian Supermarket.

Note – You can usually get thinly sliced pork at your local Asian supermarket under packages labeled shabu-shabu
