Orange Rum Soda

What is Orange Rum Soda?

A tasty and refreshing cocktail made from your choice of rum, carbonated water, orange zest, and sweetener. It’s a simple and easy cocktail that you can make in minutes.

This recipe gives you the option of making a sugar-free, low carb cocktail using a homemade low carb simple syrup. If you prefer, you can also use a simple syrup made from cane sugar.

What ingredients do I need and how do you make orange rum soda?

  • Sweetener – we use monkfruit erythritol blend to make the sugar-free low carb simple syrup. You can also use cane sugar. Add according to desired sweetness.
  • Water – used to make simple syrup.
  • White Rum – use your preferred light rum.
  • Carbonated Water – club soda, sparkling water, or soda water all work for this recipe.
  • Orange Peel – used to infuse the orange flavor into the cocktail.
  • Cubes of Ice (optional) – if you prefer a very cold drink you can add a couple of ice cubes.

Place orange peel and grate orange zest in serving glass. Pour carbonated water and simple syrup. Stir to combine. Then add your choice of rum and optional ice. Garnish with an orange peel or slice.

What kind of rum works well in an orange rum recipe?

You can use your preferred type of rum. White rum is preferred to dark rum but either can be used to make an orange rum cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Sweetener (Monkfruit Erythritol Blend, sugar or sweetener of choice)
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1.5 fl oz White Rum
  • 1 fl oz Carbonated Water
  • 1 Orange Peel
  • 1/8 tsp Orange Zest
  • Cubes of Ice (optional)

Directions

1) Gather all the ingredients.

2) In a small stove top pot, add sweetener and water, bring to boil on medium heat, should take around 1 minute.  Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 seconds.  Remove from heat after and set aside.  This is your simple syrup.

3) Prepare orange zest, orange peels and place into the cocktail cup.

4) Combine simple syrup and carbonated water and mix well.  Then add choice of Rum, garnish with additional orange slice and optional ice.  Note – make sure you occasional stir as the sweet syrup tends to sink to the bottom of the glass.
