Orange Rum Rum Soda

One of my favorite alcohol spirits to drink during the winter is Rum, simply for the fact that it reminds me of a sunny tropical island and that is where I would rather be!

But rum really isn’t one of those drinks you can drink straight and as mixers have a lot of sugar in it, I decided to try to create something aimed for keto/low carb

After a couple of test batches, we finalized this recipe and coined it Orange Rum Rum Soda!  We recommend you enjoy it while closing your eyes and imagining yourself on a tropical paradise!

This cocktail is keto approved at ~0g per serving, so kick your feet up and imagine you are somewhere on the beaches in the Caribbeans!  The cocktail offers subtle hints of orange followed by bubbly rum sweetness.

The ingredients you would need for this recipe would be just Swerve/Monkfruit carbonated water and something to zest or extract out the essential oils of the orange peels with.

We make our carbonated water with a SodaStream, but you can just use a store-bought one if you prefer.  We also recommend the proper cocktail glassware.  You can pick all of these items up at Amazon.

Now, let’s get started!

Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Swerve/Monkfruit
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1.5 fl oz White Rum
  • 1 fl oz Carbonated Water (we use SodaStream)
  • 1 Orange Peel Slice
  • 1″x 1″ Orange Peel Block (to extract essential oils from)
  • 2 Cubes of Ice (optional)

Directions

1) Gather all the ingredients.

2) In a small stove top pot, add Swerve/Monkfruit and water, bring to boil on medium heat, should take around 1-2 minutes.  Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 seconds.  Remove from heat after and set aside.  This is your simple syrup.

3) Prepare orange peel and set aside.

4) Use either a zester or garlic press to extract out the essential oils from the 1″ x 1″ block of orange peel into cocktail cup.

5) Combine simple syrup and cold SodaStream water (SodaStream tutorial here), mix well.  Then add choice of Rum, top with additional orange peel slice and optional ice.  Note – make sure to stir well while enjoying this drink as the sweet syrup tends to sink to the bottom of the glass.
