What is Strawberry Matcha Latte?

Strawberry matcha latte is a layered drink consisting of strawberry puree, milk of choice, and earthy matcha tea.  It was made famous by a boba shop in San Francisco.

This recipe is the copycat version, with low carb, keto friendly and sugar free ingredient options so that you can make this drink tailored to your diet.

What ingredients do you need and how do you make strawberry matcha latte at home?

  • Strawberries –  de-stemmed and pureed in the food processor. Choose from fresh or frozen strawberries. The more ripe the strawberries are, the sweeter your puree will be but you can also adjust the sweetener to your liking.  Other methods of preparing the strawberry mixture can be using a masher or a fork to mash the strawberries or using a blender.
  • Sweetener – To keep our drinks sugar-free and low carb, our preferred sweetener is monkfruit erythritol blend.  It is low carb, keto friendly and has 0 calories.  Feel free to use your preferred sweetener or regular cane sugar, honey, agave, or even maple syrup.
  • Matcha – you can use ceremonial grade matcha or culinary grade matcha.  Ceremony grade is much more expensive.  Matcha can be found in most Asian supermarkets as well as on Amazon.
  • Choice of Milk – you can use your preferred choice of milk including: dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk etc.
  • Heavy Cream (optional) –  If you prefer a creamier drink you can add a couple tablespoons of heavy cream.

Puree frozen or fresh strawberries and sweetener in a food processor.

Next, mix matcha with hot water using a bamboo whisk or matcha whisk.  In a tall glass, add strawberry mixture to the bottom of the glass followed by ice.

Then, to create the layered effect, pour milk over the back of a spoon slowly, followed by matcha.

Stir with a straw and enjoy! You can always adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more sweetener.
