Matcha Cream Cheese Foam Milk Tea, also referred to as cheese tea, is a captivating beverage that has become popular in boba or bubble tea shops across Taiwan expanding into many different countries.
It features a creamy and decadent layer of cheese foam on top of a vibrant and frothy matcha base.
This unique combination of matcha and cheese foam offers a delightful blend of sweet, earthy flavors with a savory touch, creating a truly indulgent and satisfying drink experience.
What is cheese foam, also known as cheese tea?
Cheese foam, also known as cheese tea, is a creamy and frothy topping that is used in various beverages, particularly in tea-based drinks.
It is typically made by combining cream cheese, sweetener, and sometimes other ingredients like milk or whipping cream.
The resulting foam has a rich and velvety texture, providing a unique contrast to the underlying tea’s flavors.
When served, the cheese foam creates a luscious layer on top of the drink, adding a savory and creamy element to the overall taste experience.
What does cheese tea taste like?
Cheese tea has a distinctive flavor profile that combines elements of sweetness, creaminess, and a subtle savory note.
The taste can vary depending on the type of tea used as the base and the specific recipe of the cheese foam.
Generally, the tea itself provides a refreshing and aromatic backdrop, while the cheese foam contributes a creamy and slightly salty taste.
When combined, these flavors create a harmonious balance that is both indulgent and satisfying.
What ingredients do I need to make cream cheese foam tea?
- Hot Water – water brought to soft boil, around 200F.
- Jasmine, Black, or Oolong Tea – your preferred loose-leaf tea. Tea bag will work too, but loose leaf is recommended for best results.
- Sweetener – use your preferred sweetener.
- Cream Cheese – blocks and at room temperature.
- Matcha Powder – best to use culinary-grade matcha powder. Ceremonial high-quality matcha powder can be used, but will only affect the color and not the taste.
- Salt – sea salt preferred.
- Half and Half – for a dairy-free option, you can use coconut milk, soy milk or almond milk.
- Heavy Cream – use whipping cream or heavy cream. Double cream if in the UK.
What are the instructions to make cheese foam for matcha milk tea?
Start by adding cream cheese and sweetened into a bowl and whisk with a hand or stand mixer. Then add matcha powder, sea salt, half and half and heavy cream and continue to mix until thick and frothy consistency with stiff peaks are formed.
Then simply brew your favorite boba tea and spoon the matcha milk foam mixture on top.
Pro Tip – sip the drink straight from the cup without using a straw.
What types of tea are best for cheese foam tea?
Cheese foam tea pairs well with a variety of tea bases, depending on personal preference. Some popular choices include black tea, green tea, oolong tea, and jasmine tea.
- Black Tea – such as Assam or Earl Grey, offers a robust and bold flavor that complements the creamy and savory notes of the cheese foam.
- Green Tea – provides a more delicate and grassy taste, creating a lighter and refreshing combination.
- Oolong Tea – with its semi-oxidized profile, brings a unique complexity that enhances the overall flavor experience.
- Jasmine Tea – known for its floral aroma, adds an aromatic and fragrant dimension to the cheese foam tea.
Ultimately, the best tea choice for cheese foam tea depends on individual taste preferences, and experimentation with different tea varieties can lead to delightful combinations.
How to drink cheese foam tea?
Cheese foam tea is typically enjoyed by sipping it directly from the cup without using a straw. This allows you to experience the layers of flavors and textures in the drink.
When you take a sip, your lips will encounter the creamy cheese foam on top, providing a rich and velvety mouthfeel.
As you continue drinking, the cheese foam blends with the tea underneath, creating a delightful combination of sweet, savory, and tea flavors.
