Drawing inspiration from my Korean BBQ Grilled Pork Belly, this dish seamlessly utilizes my proven pork belly pan-frying technique from my  Japanese Pork Belly Salad. I infuse it with flavors inspired by my Chicken Sesame Oil Stir Fry, where I carefully blend toasted sesame oil with salt, garlic, black pepper, and ginger to create this flavor packed dish!

  • Pork Belly – thinly cut as the same thickness as bacon. Can be found in Asian or Japanese supermarkets.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil – 100% Toasted Sesame Oil that should have a dark brown color.  
  • Salt – sea salt preferred.
  • Black Pepper – ground.
  • Ginger – grated using a grater.
  • Garlic Clove – grated using a grater or garlic press.
  • Green Onion – finely chopped green onion scallions.

☑ Before Getting Started

Ensure you have a Spacious Skillet to allow the pork belly to cook and sear evenly, resulting in optimal texture and flavor.

Step 1 Prepare sauce by combining toasted sesame oil, salt, black pepper, grated garlic and grated ginger.

Step 2 Cut pork belly into thin strips and cook in a frying pan with no oil until golden brown and desired crispy texture is attained. Transfer pork belly to a holding plate and discard any remaining oils.

Step 3 Add the sauce to the frying pan over high heat and cook until fragrant. Then, add the cooked pork belly back to the pan, combine well and serve to a plate.

  • 1 1/2 lb Pork Belly
  • 2 tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 Inch Ginger
  • 1 Clove Garlic
  • 1/2 Stalk Green Onion


  • Gather all the ingredients.

  • Cut pork belly into ~1/2 inch thickness. The length of each piece can vary but it's best to be around 1-2 inches long per slice. Note - it's easier to slice meat more precisely if semi-frozen.

  • Finely chop green onion stalk and set aside.

  • Grate garlic and ginger into a small mixing bowl. Mix in toasted sesame oil, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Set aside.

  • Bring a large frying pan up to temperature on high. Once up to temp, reduce to medium-high heat, transfer pork belly and cook for about 3-5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Note - after about 5 minutes, the oils from the pork belly will start to accumulate in the pan and you will start deep frying. This is where the pork belly will really crisp up.

  • Transfer the pork belly to a plate, including any remaining oils.

  • In a large frying pan over high heat, add the sauce. Once the sauce starts to bubble and become fragrant, return the pork belly to the pan. Mix the pork belly until well coated, then transfer it to a serving plate. Top with green onions.
