This Japanese style Keto Beef and Broccoli was born from a typical weekend pick up rim from a local Chinese joint.
Every weekend we get together with family and have Sunday dinner. Most of the times, when we can’t think of what to eat, we end up ordering Chinese food takeout.
There’s so many different items of the menu that we never get tired of it and almost always order a few new dishes that we haven’t tried yet.
One of these dishes, happened to be a beef and broccoli type of dish that everyone just loved. It wasn’t your typical beef and broccoli but a more sweet and savory version.
It was so good in fact that it ended up being the only dish that had no leftovers.
Now, I am and will always be a fan of the traditional beef and broccoli but this dish had a little twist to it that opened my eyes to what a different style beef and broccoli could taste like!
This restaurants beef and broccoli was a little sweet, a little peppery, and had a complex taste that I knew I’ve had before but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
Around halfway through our meal, it came to me – it tasted very similar to yakisoba sauce! Of course it wasn’t exactly yakisoba sauce, but it shared enough characteristics that I knew this would make a good fusion for me to experiment with and ultimately ketofy!
So later in the week, I hit the test kitchen with this vision in mind and out came a dish we coined Sweet Japanese BBQ Beef n’ Broccoli!
It came out just as good as the version we had at the restaurant but we, of course, keto-fied it! Hope you enjoy!
This dish would probably be boarder line keto at ~6g carbs per serving but definitely filling enough to be the main course.
The recipe takes your traditional Beef & Broccoli and transforms it to a Japanese BBQ profile packed with sweet and sour Worcestershire flavor bursting with tangy umami!
The special ingredients needed for this recipe are Toasted Sesame Seed (optional), Bonito Flakes (optional), Swerve/Monkfruit, Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce (you can skip this if you are strict keto), Sugar-Free Ketchup, Xanthan Gum and White Pepper. All these can be picked up on Amazon or a local Asian Supermarket.
