We used to frequent 85C bakery often but it wasn’t for their bread, it was for their Taiwanese sea salt coffee!
Taiwanese sea salt coffee is different than ‘Starbucks’ sea salt coffee in that it is slightly sweetened brewed coffee topped with a layer of thick salted cream. It’s a perfect mix of sweet and salty!
However, 85C coffee is pre-sweetened so there is no low-carb/keto option available which is why I decided to start making it at home.
We start with brewing your basic coffee. We prefer to use a siphon for all of our coffee brewing needs, but whatever your prefer method is will work. Just make sure to brew it on the strong side so the coffee keeps its structure against the sea salt.
Don’t forget to add a little sweetener to your coffee and allow it to cool. The original recipe calls for slightly sweetened, cold coffee but if prefer unsweetened just skip the sweetener.
Next up is the foam, which is simply made by beating heavy cream and sea salt together. Dollop that on top of the sweetened cold coffee and you’re all done!
The sea salt cream will keep in the refrigerator for a few days so you can make it once and have it over and over during the week.
You also can enjoy this drink hot or cold, so it’s a great choice regardless of what season you are in!
We recommend doubling up the ingredients and keeping the whipped cream mixture covered in the refrigerator so you can use it daily in your morning or afternoon coffee!
For this one, the only unique ingredient you will need is Swerve/Monkfruit, both can be purchased on Amazon or local specialty market.
Now, let’s get started!

Directions
1) Gather all the ingredients.
2) Brew coffee per your preferred method or use a siphon like we did here. Note – I recommend making the coffee stronger if making iced coffee to avoid dilution.
3) If you would like hot coffee, pour brewed coffee into serving glass. If you would like iced coffee, pour coffee into a serving glass and add ice cubes. Add Swerve/Monkfruit and stir to dissolve. You can adjust sweetness level to your liking (we recommend adjusting per tsp of sweetener).
4) In a medium mixing bowl, add whipping cream and sea salt. Beat on high until thick and frothy but still runny. About 2-3 minutes with a hand mixer.
5) Spoon whipped cream mixture on top of coffee. Optional- sprinkle a little sea salt on top.
Hope you enjoy your low-carb/keto Tawainese Sea Salt Coffee!
