Taiwanese Sea Salt Coffee

This Taiwanese Sea Salt Coffee recipe is an elevated iced coffee drink made with slightly sweetened brewed coffee and topped with a thick layer of sea salt cream.  It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty all in one delicious cup!

This recipe is inspired by the Sea Salt Iced Coffee made popular by the famous Taiwanese bakery 85C.

This version of sea salt coffee is sugar-free and low carb, so you can drink to your hearts content guilt free!

What is Taiwanese style Sea Salt Coffee and how do you make it?

Sweetened cooled coffee is topped with a sea salt cream mixture made with whipping cream and sea/kosher salt.

What ingredients do you need to make this sea salt coffee recipe?

  • Iced Coffee
  • Heavy Cream
  • Sprinkle of Sea Salt (or kosher salt)
  • Sweetener

How do you make the sea salt cream sugar-free friendly?

This recipe is made sugar-free by avoiding sugar and simple syrup and replacing it with a sugar alternative.  Whipping or heavy cream is naturally very low in carbs at about 1g of per 2 tablespoons.

What kind of coffee grounds do you recommend using?

Bold coffee with a dark roast like French or Italian will work the best.

How do you recommended brewing coffee?

There are different devices/equipment you can use to brew a great cup of coffee.  Below are a few way:

  • Dip Filter Coffee Maker
  • French Press (great if you don’t like using coffee filters and like to save counter space)
  • Siphon
  • Stove Pot

Did you have any tips in making sea salt coffee?

  • Brew strong coffee using fresh coffee beans.
  • Pour coffee into a tall glass or tumbler.
  • Make foam in larger batches and keep in covered bowl or jar and place in refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Sprinkle a little cocoa powder to finish it off.
  • Adjust saltiness of the cream to your liking an 1/8 of a tsp at a time.
  • You can also use ready made cold brew coffee or leftover hot coffee.
  • Don’t beat whipping cream past the soft peaks .
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of vanilla extract.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Cold/Iced Coffee
  • 1/2 Cup Whipping Cream

  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt

  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
  • 2 tsp Sweetener (sugar alternative, sugar or preferred sweetener)

 

Directions

1) Gather all the ingredients.

2) Brew coffee per your preferred method or use a siphon like we did here.  Note – I recommend making the coffee stronger if making iced coffee to avoid dilution.

3) If you would like hot coffee, pour brewed coffee into serving glass.  If you would like iced coffee, pour coffee into a serving glass and add ice cubes.  Add sweetener and stir to dissolve.  You can adjust sweetness level to your liking (we recommend adjusting per tsp of sweetener).

4) In a medium mixing bowl, add whipping cream and sea salt.  Beat on high until thick and frothy but still runny.  About 2-3 minutes with a hand mixer.

5) Spoon whipped cream mixture on top of coffee.  Optional- sprinkle a little sea salt on top.

      Hi Patricia! You’re welcome and glad you like the recipes! We recommend using your favorite medium roast coffee. We prefer brewing all of our coffee with a siphon, but any method will work!
