Now, although cauliflower rice looks like white rice, it does not have a rice-like texture, but the mild flavor works well to compliments many Asian dishes.

There are many ways to prepare and cook cauliflower rice from pan frying to the microwave.

Pan fry it while adding olive oil, butter, or better yet, garlic butter and cook over medium heat.  You can also make cauliflower fried rice or even make porridge or congee.

Both frozen and fresh or raw cauliflower rice is fine to use, however, I prefer frozen because they last much longer and are ready to use.

How do I make cauliflower rice from fresh cauliflower?

To make cauliflower rice from a fresh head of cauliflower, you can choose from the options below:

  • Chop using a large knife.
  • Use a box grater.
  • Pulse in a food processor.

If making cauliflower rice, make it in large batches and store it in an airtight bag or container for later use.

Store uncooked cauliflower rice in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Can I cook cauliflower rice from frozen?

You can add frozen cauliflower directly into a pan or microwave. Just make sure to drain any excess moisture that can collect from frozen cauliflower rice or cook long enough that it evaporates.

  • 1 tbsp Neutral Cooking Oil

Garlic Butter Fried Cauliflower Rice

  • 1.5 Cup Cauliflower Rice (frozen – do not thaw)
  • 1 tbsp Neutral Cooking Oil
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 Garlic Clove

Japanese Style Cauliflower Porridge with Bonito Flakes

  • 1.5 Cup Cauliflower Rice (frozen – do not thaw)
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Bonito Flakes
  • 1/8 tsp Salt

Directions

Regular Cauliflower Rice

1) Gather all the ingredients.

2) In a large skillet, place on high heat and bring up to temp (about 1 minute).  Add cauliflower rice, stir often and cook for 4-5 minutes or until desired texture is reached.

Quick Method – Place cauliflower rice into a microwaveable safe bowl and place a wet paper towel over the bowl.  Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes until heated through.

2)  In a stove top pot, add water and bring water to boil on high.  Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and add cauliflower rice, salt and Bonito Flakes.  Cook for 4 minutes or until desired ‘soft’ texture is attained and serve with liquid.
